Miracles + 65 baptisms

It’s easy for things to become common in the church. We get caught up in the rhythm of attending Sundays, hopefully serving, maybe even joining a life group. Some of us settle into our women’s or men’s groups, with people in the same age and stage of life. We can get stuck in this place and it becomes common. We easily forget that there are people outside our bubbles who need to hear the gospel. We forget the gospel has power.

KidWeek at the shelter was a week filled with unexpected joy and abundant fruit. We served eighty children, ranging from ages four to fifteen, most of whom lived in the shelter. For many of these kids, it was the first time hearing about Jesus and discovering that their lives had a purpose. Some of the stories they shared were heartbreaking.

On day four, we hosted a family night and had the chance to share Jesus with the parents. In faith, we set up an inflatable pool, believing that people would step forward to be baptized. What happened next was beyond our expectations: sixty-five people came forward to be baptized, including an entire family. People left their rooms to join us, walking into the water. It felt like heaven was touching the shelter. The smiles gave us a glimpse of heaven. It was then that I realized I had forgotten the true power of the gospel—the Word becoming flesh. All we did was say yes. We showed up, used our gifts and talents, and God moved in the hearts of people who had been far from Him.

We were a church on the move, driven by the mission to bring the miracle of Jesus to others. And we witnessed that miracle firsthand.
