As we moved into the new year, we weren't sure where God was going to have us go, but he let us know. If the Lord prompts your heart to respond to something don't wait to respond. Social media can be consuming, but it can also be revealing. There was a woman reaching out on FB for some items she needed for her room in the shelter. I had the items she needed, so it seemed like an easy need to meet. That obedience led me to another open door. It was a shelter not too far from the church we attend. After making connections with this woman, she provided me the information for the shelter. I was immediately excited by the size of their parking lot and courtyard. It was a motel to turned shelter so the spacing is great.
Well, like everything else, we met, and we moved quick. The shelter is one of the largest in the area. They are an overflow shelter and serve 75 families. Without hesitation we knew the Lord was asking us to do something here, so after our meeting we started organizing what would be the largest outreach we've done. I am honored to serve any number. But something new happened here.
One of my good friends that I met at bible study attends a different church. I reached out to and shared the vision and my heart for this egg hunt. She has faithfully, alongside her husband served at the other outreaches, but this time we knew God was starting something different. The hope to build bridges between churches and set-up mobile church, and pop-up vbs seemed closer. My friend in faith, and with boldness went and asked her church for help. They answered the yes. The intent and hope for The Discipleship Movement launched.
Thank you:
City Church for the deployment of their people and resources. Supplying the Easter baskets, purchasing some extra tents, use of the youth group to help stuff eggs and snack bags.
The people who supplied the crafts, eggs, gift cards, and time.
Redeeming Love in Troy for the deployment of their people and resources. Supplying food and to go containers. Providing Easter eggs and candy.
Christ Church in Albany for the bounce house
Experience Community Church for donating 150 new children's bibles.
Cherry and the church that meets in her home for the generous donation that provided all the burgers and drinks etc.
Albany Patroons for coming out to meet the kids.
We served one hundred fifty-six kids and made over two hundred burgers. We returned with nothing, but full hearts. We had twenty-four hundred easter eggs, crafts, a bounce house, yard games. We gave away bibles.
And here's something that encourages me the most. We had thirty people serve. Three different churches represented. From set-up to breakdown, I couldn't believe it.
This is The Discipleship Movement.
It's not about our church brand and making sure they come to our own personal church. It's about sharing and showing the love of Jesus. IF WE ARE GOING TO SEE OUR CITY CHANGE. IF WE ARE GOING TO SEE REVIVAL. WE HAVE TO GET TO WORK. AND IT TAKES MORE THAN ONE CHURCH. IT TAKES MORE THAN ONE PERSON. IT TAKES ALL OF US WORKING TOGETHER TO GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES. WE HAVE TO LAY DOWN OUR CHURCH BOUNDARY LINES AND PRIDE. WE NEED TO LAY DOWN OUR NEED TO BE THE ONE WHO MAKES IT HAPPEN AND JUST MAKE IT HAPPEN TOGETHER.
SO, WE ARE THE DISCIPLESHIP MOVEMENT. PEOPLE FROM CHURCHES SHARING THE GOSPEL. JOIN US. BE THE CHURCH WITH US. LINK UP WITH US AS A CHURCH. THIS IS NEUTRAL HOLY GROUND.
